Operated portable at Dharug National Park VKFF-0139 (QF56MO).
Rig was a KX3 running 5 Watts. Two antennas were used
a double-sized ZS6BKW 9m high and regular ZS6BKW 9m high.
VK port-a-log CONTEST was used for logging on my Android phone.
Weather was fine and windy both days and there were light
showers overnight. Sat night there was heavy QRN. Apart
from that HF propagation was good.

SINGLE-OP CW LOW |
INITIALLY I STARTED OUT AS QRP BUT AFTER AN HOUR OF NO
CONTACTS I CHANGED TO LOW POWER. SIGNALS WERE DOWN
AT THIS QTH, THEN THERE WAS A THUNDERSTORM SATURDAY
NIGHT AND THE BANDS WERE VERY QUIET DESPITE SOME
CALLING. ON SUNDAY I GAVE IT A GO FOR AN HOUR AND
WORKED A FEW MORE FOR A TOTAL OF 11 STATIONS FOR THE
CONTEST. |
VK2MT |
SINGLE-OP SSB HIGH |
QTH - Operated portable from a caravan in the bush near Wisemans Ferry (NW of Sydney).
Rig - IC-7610 & Antenna - Non-reasonant Dipole 60' up a helpful Gumtree.
Report - Good fun Contest with quite a few laughs, but certainly no fun on Saturday
night when the lightning static crashes were very annoying & rather exhausting.
Seemed like there were more VK3's on the air - wonder why?
And great to hear so many QRP stations especially camped out in the bush.
Thanks to Alan VK4SN for the Contest organising. |

QRP 5W is hard work as it seems the noise floor at most stations nowdays is high
Stations I could hear at S9+ were just unable to hear me at all
Using 5W and a 40m rotatable dipole at 18m high, 80 just a 1/4 sloper.

Enjoyed the RD Contest 2020! Battled the bad QRN on 80 and 160m early in
the evening (RADAR even briefly appeared to add insult to injury).
Real buzz was working a few VK6s on 160m, as I was using simple antennas
Impressed with the QRP stations as they were punching above their weight

Saturday evening operation only on 160, 80, and 40m. Quiet but

Tcvr; TS-480HX at 5W output. Antennas; 160m 1/4 wave sloping wire,
80m inverted vee, 40m switched Y-doublet, all ~15m up.
Thanks to everyone who answered my calls, and to Alan VK4SN for
managing the contest. See you all next year! |

Melbounre's Stage 4 COVID 19 Lockdown inspired me to fix my broken dipole and turn

Australia on 80/40m overnight, though a noticable lack of 2m/70cm SSB contacst this year.
Thanks Alan for managing this contest
