SINGLE-OP SSB HIGH |
We danced the bands, listened to boom crash opera on 80m
deprived ourselves of sleep and now we look like zombies.
Why do we do it, because it is a great contest.
Thank you to the contest manager for your hard work.
I hope to see everyone again next year.
In closing, what a hoot.

Lightning crashes on Saturday night on 80m were over S9 making
most contacts very difficult if not impossible. Conditions on 40m on
Sunday - I could hear stations working Stations who had the frequency
but couldn't hear who they were working!!!V Poor conditions from My location.

SINGLE-OP CW HIGH |
Had only Saturday night available for contesting, so came up to give

LOTS OF QRN. HAD A VERY IRATE, ANGRY JAMMER FOR 10-15 MINUTES ON 40M SATURDAY
EVENING. LOTS OF FOUR LETTER EXPLETIVES AND ABUSE. HE QUESTIONNED IF I "NEW THE
WAR WAS OVER"..WHY WAS I DOING CONTEST- HINTED THAT KOREAN OR VIETNEM WAS THE
REAL WAR. THEY WERE THE "HEROES". I MOVED TO ANOTHER BAND.
VERY NASTY AND SPOILT THE CONTEST. ALSO VERY SAD. NO IDENTIFICATION OR

SINGLE-OP MIXED QRP |
Thanks for administering the 2018 RD Contest. I took the opportunity to try out my homebrew QRP
(5 watts SSB/CW) rig under crowded band conditions on 80 and 40, with good results.
Having triple points 0100-0600 local Sunday morning really made the early hours busy with stations,
I kept working new calls until 2:30am and would do this again. Please preserve this night owl bonus.
I also liked exchanging 'cumulative years of license holding' rather than serial numbers.
I had to include CATEGORY-TRANSMITTER: tag in order to submit this log. This is an error as this
tag only applies to multi-op stations.

No space on 7125 for AM Crystal locked equipment. Could have done a lot
more but for LSB stns on 7125 and 7130. For an RD contest it would be
good if stns were aware of AM as it is the only frequency war time AM
gear can be used because of crystals. Collins T47 (US Navy WW2) 80W DP. |

This log is from a SOTA activation I was doing at the time of the contest.
I was using an FT817 and a 40w amp, powered by LiFePO4 battery.
The summit was Pheasant Hill, about 1km north of the southern border of
the ACT and at about 1440m ASL and ambient temperature around 3 or 4 C.

Operated portable at Dharug National Park VKFF-0139 (QF56MO).
Rig was a KX3 running 5 Watts. Two antennas were used:
a double-sized ZS6BKW 9m high and regular ZS6BKW 9m high.
VK port-a-log CONTEST was used for logging on my Android phone.
Strong QRN throughout the contest reduced the QSO rate however
the weather was fine and sunny so another enjoyable RD from the field.

SINGLE-OP MIXED HIGH |
What a struggle. Hi static during the evening and night.
Weird conditions on 40m on Sunday.
Signals just on or below the noise level.
Very few people to work from the 4 to 6am period.
|
VK2MT |
SINGLE-OP SSB HIGH |
Operated portable 12v/solar power 15klms nth of Grenfell central NSW.
Strong winds required 8 guy ropes & a shorter height on squid pole.
Wind, rain & sleet with 0 degree temps. Wind chill was -5 at 2.30am.
But all the above was fine compared to the huge & lengthy static
crashes we all endured from Saturday PM to Sunday AM.
Overnight contacts were less probably because of this noise level.
Great Contest & thank-you to the organisers for your efforts. |
